About

My name is Xander Armstrong I was born in 1998, I am an English composer, and multi instrumentalist.

I was born in Scarborough, North Yorkshire in England, and I graduated from Westwood Underground Music institute, Scarborough in 2018.

I have never recieved a good Education, and my learnings and abilities are all through being

self-taiught.

Music is my life and my sanity, providing me with calm creativity in a world of chaos.

When I create my music, I am creating a truth that juxaposes the spirtual light and truth from the grayness of daily social intercourse.

My influences range from Minimalism to the Christian Choral Tradition. My repertoire includes Chamber & Symphonic works, music from the Baroque & Renaissance Periods, the non classical traditions of jazz, Blues, and world folk music from Tibet, India and Britain.

My main musical influences are as diverse as J S Bach to Erik Satie Shostakovich, Benjamin Britten, and  Vaughan Williams.

I also acknowledge in my work contemporary composers such as Alan Hovhannes, George Gershwin, & Steve Reich.

Biography

I have been practising and performing music from the age of six when I first heard my Grandmother play her grand piano.

As-well as being classically trained over the Piano, I am also confident in other instruments such as the Cello, Strings, Percussion, Woodwind, Brass and vocals. I also have a talent for orchestration, composing for string ensembles, Choirs, and symphonic works.

My intention is to construct music, forming tunes and bars together where eventually they form a  shape, a meaning, a story,

and a clear piece of music from start to finish.

I have worked and collaborated with Script Writers and Directors who were looking for written scores for their films, this has led to Short film production Companies been interested in my range of musical repertoire for soundtracks.

I have taken part in teaching in Schools, conducting talks & presentations with the students, in my capacity as visiting Musician and Composer.

During these workshops, I have guided and taught students how to construct and compose their own musical interpretations, this has been a stimulating and rewarding experience for me.
