ABOUT MUSIC FOR A SIMPLE MEDITATION

       & STRINGS WIND & BRASS?

• These Two Different Pieces  both share the cut down, blank and starkly repetitive forms typical to the Minimalist/Systems Music approach. However, by creating unexpected counterpoints and surprising harmonies without unnecessary ornamentation as the music swells, essentially growing out of its own exploration of itself (despite itself, almost), there is a deliberate exploration of the idea of Minimalism and Systems Music as a means of expression (again, almost despite itself), not only as a break from earlier modes towards depersonalisation and, in a sense, "purity", but also as a remarkably traditional but "exploded out" approach towards reinvigorating modern Western composition, through the "building and resolution" of tension in ways that reach into the modern psyche.

• Both “music or a simple meditation” and “Music for Strings, Wind, & Brass” are intended to fit into the framework of Minimalist composition, but as the composer, the exciting challenge was to create something that adheres to strict Minimalist rules (which demand almost absurdist, mind-numbingly bland simplicity and deliberate abandonment of musical structure) while still lending a sense of movement, and therefore also heightened engagement, through the almost covert introduction of more traditional compositional techniques within the Minimalist framework.  The seemingly unvarying repetition, designed to create a slowly increasing sense of musical tension, almost imperceptibly and then suddenly surprise the ear with a 4-part harmony, forcing a feeling of resolution while continuing to reinforce "tension-creating" structures which reach into a much more modern experience.

• The Title of these Two Different Pieces, taken together as a whole, comes from the idea that they are fundamentally dissimilar in terms of instrumentation, but despite this, form a seamless whole in terms of compositional technique and structure.  The naming suggests the nature of what the composition seeks to explore: the Minimalist framework of sameness, repetition, invariability, applied to movement, counterpoint, harmony, and underlying hints of structure which still inform, even within the constraints of a modern Systems style that ostensibly abandons these fundamentals.  Taken as a whole, there is something fleeting, engaging in this counterpoint of musical ideas that attracts me quite deeply.  It is actually something fundamental to my yearning as a composer, and a concept that is more difficult to express in writing than it is in music.

IMAGES FOR SOLO VIOLIN
(2019) OP.3 NO.1

ABOUT IMAGES FOR SOLO VIOLIN?

Fast -  This study is quite rushed and consistent. The style is based over the minimalism and baroque technique. Gradually moving on we then hear a great deal of movement and an exciting journey as the piece starts to move more and progresses onwards to a near ending, in the last parts we then start to hear an almost finale, as we hear an ending arising and getting closer, another style then interrupts of “a tonal” then gives the piece a clear ending and a shock, on the last seconds on this piece you can now hear not an ending, but a start to the next study, transitioning.

Slow - this study has less minimalism, and more classical music. We start with the opening chords, this tests the performer as playing chords is sometimes very difficult over the violin, so interpretation is required. Moving on, we are now into a faster section, and a new style approaches again of “a tonalism, Afterwards we now come to an ending of the first slow section now repeating to a slow end.

Fast - This Study is a fast is formed off a fast paced jig/gigue. Sill keeping to the rules of repetive based minimalist music, there are also strong parts, and more elements of the “baroque style” interrupting over the previous style of repetition.

A Religious Argument
              OP. 4

In early 2020 I conceptualised and created, an orchestrated choral narrative which I called "A Religious Argument"

I hope to finish producing and perform this piece of work in early 2022.

In a Religious Argument i challenge religious orthodoxy, fundamentalism and institutional dogma.

And imagine a future Utopia free from religious conformity.

"The overall style is philosophical, unorthodox,

abnormal, atheistic, fictitious and mystical"  - ZA

   - ABOUT -

“Many moons ago a student at a wisdom school, on a quest for        esoteric knowledge, had an epiphany – a flash of enlightenment     that would change the path of his life forever.

Disillusioned with the slow and methodical pace of progress, he is    expelled for his revolutionary methods, leading astray fellow        students.

He continues his search to develop an alchemical system, combining science and magic, designed to awaken the population from sleep and mass-hypnosis.”

Dr K has invented a revolutionary new project, that offers a tantalising sensory  experience, infusing the worlds of entertainment with ancient wisdom.
